With 5 family members working within the company Griffin Glasshouses can claim to be a true family business. We have been designing made to measure Domestic Glasshouses, Commercial Greenhouses and Beautiful Orangeries since the early 1960s, so you can be reassured by our wealth of experience and expertise.
In 1968 the present MD took a year out to re-think the whole glasshouse industry requirements and pioneered a totally new concept of glasshouse technology. Hitherto, all aluminum and timber glazing bars used for the construction of glasshouses greenhouses and orangeries had been made in the form of an inverted "T"; this design was copied from the original wooden glazing bars, and is still used to a small extent today. The old system has two major failings. Firstly, it acts as a cooling fin and in winter time significantly increases the amount of heat required to protect the crop. Secondly it allows moss to get a firm foothold very quickly along the sides of the glass which in turn causes leaks and sometime breaks the glass.
The Griffin design removed all of these problems and most commercial manufacturers have tried, to a large extent, to copy our design. One important benefit of this change is that because the greenhouse glass is insulated away from the aluminum and sealed completely along both edges by a rigid but still slightly flexible uPVC retaining strip, the glass cannot easily be broken by severe storm wind conditions. It is very rare for any of our glasshouses to suffer from broken glass.
In the early seventies we started to build glasshouses for discerning domestic clients, though our commercial quality still shows through in our production today, particularly with regard to ventilation and the inherent strength of the structure.
Today, all of our products are constructed to our client’s unique specification. We tend to take on the more difficult glasshouse jobs, projects where our customers demand the highest levels of design and build quality.
