WHY
USE CAPPING? Using our patented snap-on capping in white or grey rigid PVC, we not only provide efficient, energy-saving insulation for the aluminium bar but also help to reduce glass slip and water leakage problems, prevent the growth of moss and algae on the glazing section, and dramatically improve the appearance of the whole structure. The capping will firmly hold glass of almost any thickness in position, and is supplied to the exact lengths required. If, for example, it is intended to cover a 20 ft span, then depending on the make and type of house, the bar capping would be 12 ft long and fit firmly onto the glazing surface from ridge to eaves.
|
Griffin bar capping is available for glasshouses by Cambridge, Robinson, Hancock, Alitex, Byron, Frampton, Wright Rain and possibly other makes. Certain profiles can also be applied to wooden glasshouses. |

CLASS
I HEAVY DUTY GLASSHOUSES Our latest Class I LUXURY GLASS STRUCTURE which has been specially designed to comply with the demands of Building Regulations and, at the same time, have a very attractive appearance with novel features. It is aimed at the market of modern Garden Centres, special glass rooms for the domestic user and swimming pool cover. We have limited the range, at present, to 20 ft and 31 ft spans, and our normal doors are of the double glazed, toughened, patio type. The trusses are of a smooth, single portal design, leaving the entire roof space uncluttered. One very special feature worthy of note is that, within the thickness of the glazing bar (nominal 2 in) we are able to incorporate as standard, a special fire retarded insulation giving the skin a thermal insulation value equivalent to that of an 11 in cavity wall. Our unique reverse double glazing feature, gives the purchaser the ability to add a second internal skin of glass or virtually any substance for either achieving extra heat savings, safety or reducing solar radiation. This can be fitted at the time of erection or, some time (years) after the installation has been completed. We can often provide this same service to glasshouses of other manufacture. |

TECHNICAL DATA Based on a 30 F° temperature rise and boiler efficiency of 75%, heat losses through aluminium glazing bars have been estimated* as 20 BTU/h per foot run, in still air, equating to approximately 1.4887 X lO-4 gallons of heating oil. Example: Consider a glasshouse of (4 spans 30 ft X 10 sections) 120 ft wide X 163 ft long. Total footage of glazing bar would be approximately 13,500 ft. The heat loss would be about 270,000 BTU/h and oil consumption = 13,500 X 1.4887 X 1O-4 = 2 galls/hr.* *Payback periods of between 12 and 24 months can often be achieved, depending upon required temperature rise and other factors. |

LETTING IN THE LIGHT Over a period of time, glass will inevitably become dirty and weatherstained, resulting in loss of light transmittance and possible breeding grounds for spores that will attack plants. To
combat these problems, Griffin offers a full glazing bar and glass
cleaning service using high pressure jets perating between 750
and 1500 lb/in2 to remove, as far as is practicable,
accumulated moss and other debris, and to clear and wash out the drainage
channels in glazing Additionally, the Company is also equipped to carry out acid cleaning, both internally and externally, usually resulting in a house restored from the ravages of climate and organic deposits, and presenting a pristine "as new" appearance. |

STAGING TO CHOICE The internal furnishing of glasshouses of all kinds has long been a feature of Griffin’s overall service to the horticultural industry. Benching basically falls into two categories —mobile and/or static. With both types the keyword is ‘versatility’. Given the internal space available we will design, build and install to individual needs, using our knowledge and experience to provide the maximum growing area practicable. Shown here are two of the benching systems we have installed. In every instance they have met with unqualified approval, and are continuing to fulfil the exacting quality standards originally laid down. As growers will know to their cost, a half loaded mobile bench can easily tip over resulting in loss/damage to valuable stock. Griffin includes as standard their unique anti-tip device. IRRIGATION Be it for benching (Griffin and others) or for general purpose: ie overhead mist, manual or automatic, let us quote you. VENTILATION Is your present glasshouse sufficiently ventilated? We are "The Professionals" when it comes to —design - modifications - improvements -installations. Let us quote you. |

A STYLE OF ITS OWN With building costs continually rising, people are nowadays turning to conservatories as a means of extending their homes in an economical manner. Many types of extensions, based on ‘module’ sizes are available commercially, but in this competitive marketplace Griffin again has a distinct advantage in being able to offer designs tailor-made to specific requirements. You may, for instance, have a return elevation to your house where a conservatory must be sited within fixed dimensions. Alternatively, a particular finish or out-of-the-ordinary construction may be desired, which cannot be met from standard catalogues. For all the options, it will pay you to consult Griffin - first! IN THE SWIM The accent on leisure, so apparent in all walks of life today, has brought an upsurge in the popularity of swimming pools, resulting in a demand for enclosures as a natural enhancement to a much enjoyed facility. In this specialised field, where every enclosure is virtually a ‘one off, Griffin will plan, design and build to pool owners’ individual wishes, with careful supervision from beginning to end of the project.
